Telavana at Subrosa Tonight

Subrosa – our beloved Latin-Jazz club in the meatpacking district is closing and eventually moving to a new undisclosed location. But we’re playing the very last concert there tonight with a special edition of TELAVANA featuring Jonathan Powell, Tamir Shmerling, Dan Aran, Cesar Orozco and special guest – master conguero Samuel Torres. Come down and help Subrosa go out with a bang

Telavana at the Django + album recording

Exciting times coming up for Telavana – the band I put together representing my desire to bring the musical realms of the middle east and the caribbean a little closer – we’re getting ready to go into the studio next week and record an album! it’s going to be the first time we step into the studio together and the first time the music is documented properly. But before we do that we’re going to play all of our tunes live at the Django  in TriBeCa this Saturday night. The lineup will include Edgar Pantoja/piano, Dennis Hernandez/trumpet, Manuel Alejandro Carro/percussion, Or Bareket/bass and Dan Aran/drums. See you there!

Red Sea Jazz Festival

In a few days I’ll be heading to the lovely sea side town of Eilat to celebrate  an historic moment (for me, anyway…) the first time I bring a New York band to perform in Israel . The Red Sea Jazz Festival is by far the biggest and funnest Jazz event in the Middle East and I’m really excited and grateful to have the opportunity to play there with the HAVANA SPECIAL featuring the maestros

Yuniel Jimenez – tres / Edgar Pantoja – piano / Rafi Malkiel – trombone / Gabriel ‘chinchilita’ machado – congas / Nestor Villar – timbales / Jorge Bringas – bass

We’re playing on Monday August 29th at RED NOTE stage at 10pm

Hope to see you at Newport Jazz Festival , but if you can’t make it and still want to hear the music, the band recorded an album live at the Jazz Standard, which you can find HERE.

Hong Kong

I recently got back in town from a week in Hong Kong with fantastic singer Bianca Wu and an ace band that featured Art Hirahara, Nick Hempton, Juancho Herrera, Jonathan Powell, Dan Aran, Evan Gregor and Paulo Stagnaro. We played three sold-out shows at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and it was an incredible experience. I really loved the energy of the city and the people there and I can’t wait to get back. Heaps of thanks to Bianca, Patrick Chu- the executive producer, and everyone who played and participated. here are a few pics from the trip:

New Album – Amos Hoffman’s ‘Back to the City’

Last Wednesday I was delighted to join my friend, mentor and incredible guitarist Amos Hoffman for his CD release party at Smalls Jazz club in Greenwich Village. The album was recorded last winter and features Omer Avital, Vince Ector, Duane Eubanks & Asaf Yuria playing mostly Amos’ original Jazz tunes, alongside some beautiful standards. I joined them in the studio as a guest on one song (Little Pigs). Check the album out HERE
